I wish to request the following information relating operational staff in the local Fire & Rescue under the Freedom of Information Act 2000:

How many of your Fire Stations have fitness/gym equipment on site?
Are your Wholetime Firefighters afforded time to access the fitness equipment whilst on duty as part of their contract?
Are your Retained Firefighters paid to undertake fitness activities similarly to their Wholetime colleagues?
What incentives does the service provide their Retained operational staff to maintain their fitness levels?
Please supply a copy of the service’s fitness policy.

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request. Please find the answers to your questions below. 1. How many of your Fire Stations have fitness/gym equipment on site? None, but we are currently reviewing our fitness processes. 2. Are your Wholetime Firefighters afforded time to access the fitness equipment whilst on duty as part of their contract? No. 3. Are your Retained Firefighters paid to undertake fitness activities similarly to their Wholetime colleagues? Neither are paid. 4. What incentives does the service provide their Retained operational staff to maintain their fitness levels? All operational staff are required to pass an annual fitness test. In addition we offer a corporate membership that we have negotiated at a variety of fitness clubs to give Fire Service Personnel cut price access on a voluntary basis. 5. Please supply a copy of the service’s fitness policy. Please find this attached however please note that this is currently under review.
