Thank you for your Freedom of Information request. Please refer below: 1. The number of battery powered smoke alarms have your brigade fitted in the years Jan 2016-2017 / 2017-2018: • 40 Hard of Hearing Specialist Alarms Smoke alarms fitted in January – December 2016 – 1860; • 40 Hard of Hearing Specialist Alarms Smoke alarms fitted in January - December 2017 – 2891; • 40 Hard of Hearing Specialist Alarms Smoke alarms fitted January - March 2018 - 828. 2. The number of battery powered smoke alarms were returned faulty that were fitted in those years. - We cannot calculate how many of the returns we have are from a particular year as we do not record this information. We record total returns per year. Reported faults are not tested as the cost is prohibitive, and detectors are just replaced. Therefore not all replacements may be as a result of a fault. All returned alarms are sent to the supplier who give the Service a refund. Returns in 2016 – 2017 = 353 Smoke alarms. Returns in 2017 – 2018 = 326 Smoke alarms. 3. The type of alarms your brigade are fitting ie: 10 years alarms or replacement battery alarms - The Service has always fitted 10 year smoke alarms The smoke alarms are supplied by Spue Safety Products Ltd. The smoke alarms have a sealed 10 year battery which is not replaceable. The ten year smoke alarm would have to be replaced after ten years. We currently fit model ST750 as part of our Safe and Well visits. 4. Have you a dedicated team to install the smoke alarms or your fire crews when they carry out there Home Safety Checks - Our smoke alarms are fitted as part of our Safe and Well home visits. If the person visited fits our criteria they would qualify for a free fitted smoke alarm based on one smoke alarm per level. Our Safe and Well visits are carried out by personnel in all our 23 stations. We also have a dedicated Prevention team that look into the more complex cases and would also fit smoke alarms as part of their visit.
