Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service were called to a hazardous substance incident at Epson Ltd, Horntonwood. 4 fire engines attended including 2 specialist vehicles and two officers.
A small amount of chemical used in ink production was accidently mixed in the waste treatment room. All staff evacuated as a precaution. Fire crews investigated and assisted in ventilation until the incident was believed to be safe. The chemicals were then pumped out by Veolia and production at the factory continued as normal.
Due to Epson’s pre-planning and thorough risk assessment which was immediately passed onto fire crews the incident was resolved safely and quickly.
