Animal Rescues



Request detail: 

I am applying to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 for the following information.

Please could you provide the following details for the financial years 2016/17, 2015/16, 2014/15.

Please could you provide the information separately for each incident, for questions two, three and four.

 1) The number of times staff were called out to rescue an animal(s) for each year.

 For each incident could you provide the following;

2) The cost of responding to each incident for the Fire Brigade.

3) The animal that was rescued in each incident (e.g. a cat, bird, cow, dog etc).

4) Why the animal had to be rescued in each incident.

Response detail: 

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request. The number of times that SFRS was called to an animal rescue during the financial years are as follows: 2014/15 - 54, 2015/16 - 50, 2016/17 – 51. Please find attached a spreadsheet that shows the detail of each animal rescue incident that Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to for the financial years requested. The type of animal rescued is recorded as either a ‘Livestock, e.g. horse, cow’ Sheep, goat, pig, poultry, fish, exotic (llama/ostrich), deer etc, ‘Domestic e.g. cat, dog rodents, horse, bird etc’, ‘Bird’ or ‘Wild e.g. horse, deer, wildfowl, game, aquatic, exotic, etc’. The spreadsheet attached contains relevant information taken from our Incident Recording System including the incident description which provides additional information about the incident where this was recorded. Please note that all personal data has been removed. With regard to cost of responding to each incident an indicative cost can be worked out each rescue which is based upon the equivalent special services charges tariff for 2018/19 (please follow the link: ). This can be calculated by determining the number and type of vehicles attended and the length of time they were in attendance.
