I am submitting this email in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act. My submission relates to cedar wood cladding on residential properties in the private sector. I would be grateful if would please respond to the following questions:

Please can you provide copies of any risk assessments that you have carried out in relation to cedar wood cladding presenting a fire risk on residential buildings.
Please can you provide copies of any investigations, analysis or testing you have been instructed to undertake in relation to whether cedar wood cladding poses a fire risk.
Please can you provide copies of any instructions, advice or guidance that have been issued to local fire and rescue services in relation to cedar wood cladding as a potential fire risk.
Please can you provide the number of recorded fires in your authority’s area where cedar wood cladding was a major contributor in the fire starting and spreading.
What evidence do you have to consider cedar wood cladding to present a fire risk?

SFRS do not carry out Fire Risk Assessments.

 

Please can you provide copies of any investigations, analysis or testing you have been instructed to undertake in relation to whether cedar wood cladding poses a fire risk.

SFRS has not been instructed to undertake any such investigations, analysis or testing.

 

Please can you provide copies of any instructions, advice or guidance that have been issued to local fire and rescue services in relation to cedar wood cladding as a potential fire risk.

SFRS is not aware of any National Operational Guidance with relation to cedar wood cladding

 

Please can you provide the number of recorded fires in your authority’s area where cedar wood cladding was a major contributor in the fire starting and spreading.

No fires have been attributed to such cladding.

 

What evidence do you have to consider cedar wood cladding to present a fire risk?

As a timber if cedar wood cladding is used on a premise, then it should be compliant with the relevant functional requirements of The Building Regulations 2010. Additional guidance on how those requirements are met can be found in documents like Approved Document B Volume 1 (if a dwellinghouse) (available here: https://www.planningportal.co.uk/info/200135/approved_documents/63/part_... ). Where such regulations are met, in relation to fire resistance , the installation of cedar wood cladding should not present an extraordinary fire risk.
