Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is urging the public to take extra care when using BBQs as the weather gets hotter.
We are seeing temperatures rise and expect many of you will be getting out your BBQs or buying disposable ones. We’ve got some top tips to keep you, your loved ones and the environment safe.
Area Manager Marc Millward, Head of Service Delivery, said: “We generally see an increase in the fire outdoors in the warmer months of the year. Many of these are due to disposable BBQs. These are easily avoided by following our safety advice. So please help us to keep Shropshire safe this summer.”
Top Tips for BBQ Safety:
Use the correct fuel for your BBQ, do not be tempted to add other materials to your BBQ to get it going.
Ensure your BBQ is in a safe place, elevated and away from flammables, such as dry grass.
Never leave your BBQ unattended.
Ensure your disposable BBQ is completely out- we advise you submerge the coals in cold water.
Keep children away from BBQs.
