At 11.40am Fire Control received numerous calls to a fire at the old factory site, Ennerdale Road, Shrewsbury. Two fire appliances from Shrewsbury were initially mobilised to the incident.
On arrival the Officer in charged was confronted with a fire in the top floor of the building with large plumes of black smoke coming from the roof.
The officer in charge requested additional fire appliances and two aerial ladder platforms to attend the incident.
Incident Commander Neil Groves said, "The building was under renovation and the inside was in too dangerous a condition for fire crews to be allowed to enter to fight the fire from inside.
"The fire was extinguished by fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus using water from the aerial ladder platforms. In total over 50 firefighters attended the incident and the situation was brought under control at approximately 13.15pm."
Fire Service fire investigation officers have attended the scene try to establish the cause of the fire.
