Firefighters tackle large industrial fire in Wem

Industrial Unit in Wem- Well alight

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service has been tackling a large blaze in Wem.

We were called at 12.28am today, Wednesday 6 October, to reports of a fire at an industrial building at Wem Business Park.

Six appliances attended, including the aerial ladder platform, from Prees, Shrewsbury, Tweedale and Wem.

The unit was well alight when the crews arrived and they used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and one main jet to tackle the fire during the initial stages. The fire was brought under control using a monitor from the aerial ladder platform.

No one was in the property and fortunately there were no injuries. A road closure is still in place on new Street while firefighters continue to ensure the scene is safe.

Group Manager Marc Milward said:

“This was a significant fire in a building of around 30m by 50m. When we first arrived, flames were issuing from the roof space and the crews worked quickly to get the fire under control.

“A fire investigation will begin today to determine the cause of the blaze.”
