Environmental information regulations

The Environmental Information Regulations effective from 1 January 2005 also gives members of the public the right to access environmental information held by public authorities. This covers information on the state of the environment with certain specified exceptions. Any applications will be dealt with in the same manner as requests made under the Freedom of  Information Act, verbal requests, however, are also acceptable.

There are number of legal exemptions that apply to the provision of information about the environment. If we do not provide you with the information that you are looking for, we will write to you explaining the reasons why.

The provision of environmental information may be subject to the payment of any applicable and appropriate fee. You will be given a fees notice as quickly as possible, requesting payment of the fee. The information you have requested will only be provided to you once full fee is received (and if by cheque, once the cheque has cleared).
