Arson is the single most common cause of fire in business premises and, in Shropshire, arson as a whole costs the county a staggering £6.5 million a year. Less than half of businesses which suffer a serious arson attack ever recover, and most firms that do manage to continue trading, fold within a year.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 makes it the responsibility of every business to produce a fire risk assessment. A fire risk assessment does not need to be complex, or to take up a lot of time - what it does need to do is identify where the risks are and make sure vulnerability to an arson attack is minimized.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service will be running an open advice day at Cedar Court on the Halesfield Industrial Estate on 21st May between 9:30am and 4:30pm.

If you would like to find out more about the risks of arson to your business, or if you would like help with completing a fire risk assessment, please come down to Cedar Court on the 21st May. A sensible assessment of your particular risks will mean you can focus your efforts where they will have the most effect to protect your business.
