Charity abseil

Shropshire Fire Control Operator Sally Barnett prepares for her charity abseil

Shropshire fire control room operator Sally Barnett knows how to keep a cool head during an emergency - and she will need it when she abseils off a roof at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

For the 34-year-old from Baschurch will take the plunge down four floors of the hospital block in aid of the Lingen Davies Cancer Relief Fund - despite being afraid of heights and never having abseiled before.

"I read about the charity event in our fire service magazine and even though I can't stand heights I thought, let's do it," said Sally, who mobilises firefighters after taking emergency 999 calls in the control room at Shrewsbury fire HQ.

Sally, who has so far raised more than £400, will join other charity abseilers at the fund raising event on Sunday, June 4.
