Lee wanted to help his community- do you?

Meet Lee, who has been a firefighter here in Shropshire Fire and Resce Service for more than twenty years.

He joined in 2001 after being rejected on his first attempt to apply a few years prior. He said he began to research the role and take it more seriously before reapplying and being successful.

Lee said: "I wanted to join an organisation that supported the community and to feel that I could be a useful part of the organisation.

"I know it sounds cliche, butI enjoy that everyday can be different and sometimes challenging and it is a job where you are consistently learning or refreshing your skill set. I have been lucky enough to work with some great, knowledgeable and professional people.

"The job can bring excitement but most of all it leaves me feeling like I have been useful to the community especially in situations where the individuals can be vulnerable and in need of help.

"I have had the opportunity to work in other departments including the protection department where I gained qualifications in Business Fire Safety and got to go out into the community in a totally non operational role and gain experience in this area or the organisation."

Lee is now back with his crew in Telford continuing to serve his community.
