Spectators from the busy Shrewsbury Flower Show get an unscheduled opportunity to witness an Animal Rescue in action. At 09:40 Fire Control received a 999 call from a local livestock owner who had found one of his Aberdeen Angus cows trapped between a sleeper and the river bed near the Shrewsbury School Boat house in Shrewsbury. Fire Engines from Shrewsbury, Wellington and also the Rescue Tender were mobilised. On arrival the officer in charge also asked for the boat to attend for support. A vet was requested to attend to assist with sedation of the cow so that firefighters could perform the rescue safely and with minimal distress to the animal that had been there all night long. The Hiab Crane that is attached to the back of the Rescue Tender was used along with specialist large animal rescue strops and lines to lift the cow out of the water. This weekend is Shrewsbury’s busy Annual Flower Show. A large number of spectators had gathered alongside the opposite river bank to witness the animal rescue in action. A large cheer was heard from the crowd as the cow was lifted to safety. Photos on our Facebook Page. https://www.facebook.com/shropsfire
