At 18:41 Sunday evening Shropshire Fire and Rescue Services control room received a call to Wrockwardine village reporting a large baled straw fire. Fire Control immediately dispatched 2 Fire Engines from Wellington and an Operational Officer. Station Manager Adam Matthews said “upon arrival crews were faced with a large straw fire involving approximately 500 tons of baled straw. The straw was fully involved in fire so our crew’s main objective was to stop the fire spreading to surrounding fields and hedges. Two specialist off road vehicles were later mobilised to this incident. Crews will be in attendance for some significant time whilst the fire is allowed to burn in a controlled manner.
