More than £40,000 Raised For Fire Fighter Charity

Shropshire fire crews have collected a staggering £40,484 in a series of charity events over the past year smashing their fundraising target four fold.

Their efforts have helped the Fire Fighters Charity support 34 local beneficiaries, said charity service co-ordinator Ashley Brown.

In recognition of their efforts, a certificate of appreciation was presented to Ashley by Chief Fire Officer Rod Hammerton at Shrewsbury fire HQ on behalf of the Fire Fighters Charity.

Shropshire fire crews have smashed their fundraising target for the year by collecting £17,000 in a series of charity events.

They had aimed to raised £9,600 for the Fire Fighters’ Charity over the past 12 months but raised the bar to get an extra £7,400.

Charity Service co-ordinator Ashley Brown praised the fundraising enthusiasm from firefighting colleagues at Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

“It has been a fantastic year for both fundraising for the Fire Fighters Charity as well as raising the profile of the services on offer to all members.

A Burning Ambition for England’s George

 

A Shropshire sportsman is all fired up ready to play rugby for his country  - and hoping for a better result than the national side in the Rugby World Cup.

For Ludlow firefighter George Jacks (25) has been picked for the second time to play for the England fire service’s national squad.

A flanker for Ludlow Rugby Club, George will wear the number six shirt when he represents his country against Wales on October 15 at the Saracen’s ground in London with a 20,000 capacity crowd.

Dyslexia Is A "Gift," Says Shropshire Firefighter

 

Word is spreading about a successful scheme helping to transform the lives of Shropshire employees with dyslexia.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, with a higher ratio of dyslexic staff than the 10 per cent population average, is one of a few public sector organisations to run a support programme acclaimed for changing the lives of staff with dyslexia and Meares Irlen syndrome.

RAGS TO RICHES FOR FIREFIGHTERS CHARITY

 

Shropshire firefighters are turning rags to riches for the Fire Fighters’ Charity after the successful launch of 13 recycling centres at county fire stations.

For the past six months, the Fire and Rescue Service has been working with the charity to collect textile donations.

Clothes banks at local fire stations have so far raised more than £2,500 for the charity.

Service Co-ordinator Ashley Brown said: " So far the scheme has been a great success with donations steadily increasing.

Shropshire House Fire Trauma Aid

A unique service giving practical and emotional help to people suffering from the trauma of a house fire, flood or other serious emergency has made a "huge difference" to people's lives since it was launched in Shropshire.

The Red Cross fire and emergency support (FES) service has been called to more than 50 incidents helping scores of people at all times of day and night since it was set up a year ago with the support of Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Sally's Firefighting Fit

A firefighter who feared she would never walk again after breaking her back in an accident has raised £2,200 for the charity which got her back on her feet.

Sally Barnett (42) also did it in style with a sponsored weekly walk up The Wrekin for a whole year including Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve, wearing full firefighting kit and carrying a breathing apparatus cylinder weighing 17.5kg for a total distance of 85,280ft.

A firefighter who feared she would never walk again after breaking her back in an accident will walk up The Wrekin for the final trip of a marathon 52 week challenge which has raised £1,500 for charity.

Sally Barnett will set off at 9am on Friday, June 20,  to complete a total of 52 walks up and down the Shropshire mountain over the past year wearing full firefighting kit and carrying a breathing apparatus cylinder weighing 17.5kg for a total distance of 85,280ft.

CHARITY CAR WASH SUCCESS

Shropshire firefighters joined churchgoers and a family support group in a united car cleaning effort which raised more than £600 for their three charities.

Armed with buckets and sponges, they washed more than 50 cars on Harry Tuffin’s car park in Ludlow backed with free refreshments from the nearby Squirrel pub.

Also helping were youngsters from the South Shropshire Youth Forum.
