Request detail:

Exploring fire risk for people living with dementia and any initiatives in place to reduce risk for this group.

I wondered if you could share with me the number of fire incidents you attended which involved people living with dementia in the last reporting year?

Do you have any strategies or policies in place regarding people living with dementia? If so, it would be great to see those.

could you please update my request and provide the following more detailed information (if known)

  1. Number of fire incidents attended by your service involving people living with dementia in the years 2023, 2022, and 2021
  2. The above broken down into actual fire incidents and false alarms
  3. Number of deaths from fire related incidents for people living with dementia 2023, 2022, and 2021

As outlined in my initial email, I am also interested in any strategy or policies you have around dementia and would be grateful if you could share any of these with me.

Do you have any strategies or policies in place regarding people living with dementia? If so, it would be great to see those. Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) do not have any policies / strategies in relation to supporting our employees.  We have held dementia awareness training for our employees in the past.  SFRS Prevention department do not have a specific policy relating to dementia or memory loss, although those living with dementia would be considered at risk or vulnerable which is included within our prevention strategy and tactical plans see attached. These are currently being revised.

please find below the information requested for the additional questions sent.

Number of fire incidents attended by your service involving people living with dementia in the years 2023, 2022, and 2021  - One incident in 2023, Zero in 2022,  and Zero in 2021
The above broken down into actual fire incidents and false alarms – Fire
