At 23:10 on Tuesday, 29 May, 2018, SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting a fire classified as Property Fire in Shrewsbury.

2 fire appliances were mobilised from Prees and Wem. An Operations officer was in attendance.

False alarm made with good intent, as a result of a controlled burn. Responsible persons were in attendance.

At 13:00 on Wednesday, 23 May, 2018, SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting a fire classified as Property Fire.

2 fire appliances were mobilised from Ludlow. An Operations officer was in attendance.

Crews used the following equipment to tackle the fire:

  • Knapsacks
  • Short extension ladder
  • Thermal imaging camera

Small fire in carpenter's workshop. Crews extinguished using knapsack sprayer and triple extension ladder. Assistance from Hereford and Worcester Fire Service.

False alarm good intent caused by a dropped cigarette, advice given

Smoke alarms cost as little as £5 and are available at most DIY stores. It is recommended that smoke alarms should be fitted on the ceiling one per floor and they should be 30cm away from walls or light fittings (Usually top and bottom of stairs). Smoke alarms should be tested weekly by pressing the button to briefly activate the alarm. Change the battery once a year (unless it's a ten year alarm) and gently vacuum the alarm twice a year to remove dust from the sensors.

This incident was a false alarm good intent caused by cooking fumes

Most kitchen fires occur when people are distracted or leave things unattended.

  • Never use a toaster under a shelf or kitchen cupboard - pull it out from under the cupboard when in use.
  • Don't hang wet or damp tea towels on the cooker to dry.
  • Dirty grill pans and ovens cause fires. Help keep them clean.
  • When using a microwave read the cooking instructions carefully, ensure you don't put in any metal objects.
  • Kettles can cause serious burns from the steam, make sure you don't lean over the kettle when it'.s boiling.

Build bonfires well clear of buildings and never use flammable liquids to start the fire. Before you light the bonfire, check that children and animals are not hiding inside and are a safe distance away. Don't leave bonfires unattended. Don't light bonfires in unsuitable weather conditions.

At 09:11 on Monday, 7 May, 2018, SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting a fire classified as Property Fire in Ellesmere.

2 fire appliances including the Aerial Ladder Platform were mobilised from Ellesmere, Oswestry, Shrewsbury, Tweedale and Wem. Operations, Hazmat and Safety officers were in attendance.

Crews used the following equipment to tackle the fire:

  • Breathing Apparatus (BA)
  • Hosereel jet
  • Thermal imaging camera

Also at the scene of the incident were: the Land Ambulance Service and the Police.

Fire in kitchen area of pub. 8 Breathing Apparatus, 2 Hose Reel Jets and 2 Covering Jets. All persons accounted for. 1 male suffering smoke inhalation.
