Friends and family campaign 2015
Fire prevention experts are urging people to encourage their friends, family and neighbours to fit smoke alarms as part of an Easter fire safety campaign.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Friends and Family Campaign begins on Good Friday and will run for two weeks. It is aimed at encouraging more householders to fit smoke alarms and will urge people to persuade their friends and family members to do the same.
“Spreading the word among family and friends about the importance of fitting and regularly checking smoke alarms could be one of best Easter gifts anyone could give. A smoke alarm could save a loved one’s life,” said fire prevention officer, Delyth Kelly.
“We are particularly keen to get out to people who have elderly or infirm relatives, friends or neighbours. If you are visiting a vulnerable person over the Easter break take a minute or two to check their smoke alarms if they have them or help them to get alarms fitted if they don’t.”
Statistics show that people are four times more likely to die in a house fire where no smoke alarms are fitted.
“Every home should have one alarm per floor as a minimum and it is vital that people regularly check that their alarms are working properly,” said Delyth.
