Last night (Monday 14th October) Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury hosted an evening of awards and celebration for the latest batch of on-call firefighter recruits to join Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Friends and family were invited along to see the 25 firefighters receive their certificates, with a select few being awarded the silver axe for top student on their course.
Chair of the Fire Authority, Councillor David Minnery, said:
I am writing to inform you that Assistant Chief Fire Officer Adam Matthews has tendered his resignation and will leave Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service on Monday 30 September 2024.
The independent investigation into concerns raised against Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Simon Hardiman has been concluded.
The Fire Authority’s Personnel Panel has met and taken appropriate action. CFO Hardiman will be returning to work.

On Saturday 13th July at around 6.40pm firefighters from Bridgnorth were called to the river to reports that a man a woman had fallen in and couldn't get back out.
Officers from West Mercia Police used a throwline to help keep the casualties safe until the fire service arrived. The crews and the Water First Responder used extension ladders to rescue the couple from the water. Thankfully both the man and woman were not injured during the incident.
