As the weekend approaches and flood water still poses considerable dangers across the county, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is reminding people to continue to be vigilant and remain safe.

Whether there are swollen rivers or general floodwater on roads and pathways, it is vital people follow simple, common sense, steps during periods of flooding to help ensure they, and their families, stay safe.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service experienced one of its busiest weekends as heavy rain brought flooding to several areas of the County seeing over 300 emergency calls being received in 24 hours.

The sheer volume and variety of incidents the fire crews dealt with reflects the broad range of skills they can deploy to help protect the people of Shropshire and beyond. Boat crews performed water rescues, whilst other crews attended flooded properties and assisted in flood-water pumping. more

Valentine's Day is one of the most popular times to use candles in the home.

It's safer to use battery operated candles but if you're using wax candles to make Valentine’s Day extra special, follow our safety advice:

  • Keep clothes and hair away from the naked flame.
  • Always use a suitable holder when burning candles.
  • Keep candles out of the reach of children and away from pets.
  • Consider an extra smoke alarm in the rooms where you use candles more

Police officers are investigating a car fire which took place in the early hours of Wednesday morning.  

The incident occurred at Urban Gardens in Wellington at 01.45am on Wednesday, 12 February.

One vehicle was invovled and received 50% damage from the fire.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue investigation officers have confirmed the car was set alight deliberately.

Police officers are investigating a series of car fires which took place in the early hours of Wednesday morning. It affected three vehicles in Newport.  

The incident occurred on Victoria Park road at 01.35am on Wednesday, 5 February.

The fire was initially started at the site of one car which then spread to two others nearby.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue investigation officers have confirmed the car was set alight deliberately.
