My Mum's A Firefighter

 

A campaign to get more women to become firefighters has been launched as three of the latest recruits get ready to join Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

A primary school teaching assistant from Much Wenlock, Church Stretton fitness instructor and Clun pub barmaid are undergoing training at the fire training school in Telford to bring to 19 the number of women now serving as county firefighters.

Women's Taster Day

Women’s Taster Day

Oswestry Fire Station, Saturday  21st February 2015 at 09.30 - 12.00

We are holding a taster event to encourage women to look at becoming part-time professional firefighters. To be a retained firefighter you need to live within 5 minutes of your local fire station in Shropshire, be fit and reliable, and be able to attend for duty at any time within your agreed hours. We provide training, support, promotion opportunities, excellent pay and conditions of service and a strong commitment to equality.

The Holocaust Memorial Day Trust (HMDT) is the charity which promotes and supports Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD). 27 January 2015 marks the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. 2015 will also be the 20th anniversary of the Genocide in Srebrenica, Bosnia. It is particularly appropriate that the theme for this major anniversary year focuses on memory.

At 18:27 on Tuesday, 13 January, 2015, SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting that a Road Traffic Collision had taken place in Telford.

1 fire appliance was mobilised from Telford Central and Telford Training.

Crews used the following equipment to deal with the incident:

Also at the scene of the incident were: the Land Ambulance Service and the Police.

RTC involving 2 vehicles. Two females released prior to arrival of Fire Service Personnel. Crews have administered oxygen therapy to one passenger and made vehicles safe.

Fire Warning on E-Cigarette Chargers

 

A warning about the dangers of exploding e-cigarettes has been issued by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Fire chiefs have released graphic film footage of an e-cigarette being engulfed in flames after an incompatible charger overheated. Fire officers tested a standard e-cigarette being charged with a non standard charger, which burst into flames after just 35 minutes.

They have caused more than 100 fires nationwide –resulting in one death –although no reported incidents yet in Shropshire.
