At 21:22 on Wednesday, 17 June, 2015, SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting an incident classified as Water Rescue in Ellesmere.
5 fire appliances including the Incident Support Unit and the Water Rescue Unit were mobilised from Ellesmere, Oswestry and Shrewsbury. An Operations officer was in attendance.
Also at the scene of the incident were: the Land Ambulance Service and the Police.
Police contacted SFRS to report that a few youths were seen jumping off boats into The Mere at Ellesmere, and were concerned for their safety. A Specialist Water Rescue team was mobilised from Shrewsbury, with crews from Ellesmere first on scene followed by Water First Responders from Oswestry. After an initial investigation and information gathered it became apparent that all the youths had safely left the water before the arrival of the Fire Service.
