Wheelie bin arson in Telford

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service have attended another report of a wheelie bin fire at 8.47pm on Wednesday 10th April 2013 on Woodrows, Woodside, Telford. The wheelie bin was deliberately set on fire.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service have attended five wheelie bin fires on Woodside since February 2013.

Our advice is always store wheelie bins well away from the front of property’s, and only put out bins on the day of collection.

Telford firefighter shatters world record at Ironbridge

On 31st March Stu Rushton from Green Watch, Telford shattered the Guinness World Record by running the Ironbridge half marathon in full fire kit in 2hrs 00mins 47secs. Stu wanted to say thankyou to Alec Thomas, from his watch, for running ahead of him videoing the whole event.

Congratulations to Stu for this amazing run and for raising money for the Firefighters Charity and Help for Heroes.

Shropshire house fire drama on BBC Real Rescues

The story of how a 999 operator kept a panic stricken mother talking over the phone in a bid to calm her while a blaze trapped her and her two young children in their Shropshire home will be re-told on BBC Real Rescues tomorrow. (Tuesday)

The programme will be broadcast at 11.30am on Tuesday, March 19th and repeated on Wednesday at 7.05am on BBC2.

Tribute to tragic Shropshire fireman

Firefighters and staff from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service have paid tribute to the only fireman known to have died on duty in Shropshire.

George Faulconbridge (50) fell to his death during a fire drill in Shrewsbury in 1938 while demonstrating how people could be lowered to safety in a hoist. He lost his grip on a rope and died in front of his firefighting colleagues after the 26ft fall.

Car fire arson in Hadley

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service attended a report of a car fire in Church Street, Hadley at 1.05am on Saturday 2nd March 2013.

One appliance from Wellington attended the fire which involved a silver Audi A4 saloon.

The fire is believed to have been started deliberately.

Car fire arson in Leegomery, Telford

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service attended a report of a car fire at 11.57pm on Monday 25th February 2013 in Aintree Close, Leegomery, Telford.

The car, a Vauxhall Corsa, was completely destroyed by the fire which is being treated as arson and is being investigated by West Mercia Police.

Fire Officer receives national award

A senior Shropshire fire officer has been recognised with a national award for helping to equip and train some of the poorest firefighters in Europe.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer Steve Worrall was praised for his “inspirational” leadership in organising a series of county visits to the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland and Romania over the last several years.
