Fire Brigade’s Union Strike Action Impacting on Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service

The Fire Brigade’s Union will be taking a series of strikes over the eight day period from Saturday 9th August until Saturday 16th August.  There will be two periods of strikes on each of the eight days with the first period between 12pm and 2pm, and the second being between 11pm and midnight each day.  The strikes are in support of the FBU’s ongoing campaign against changes to pensions proposed by the Department of Communities and Local Government.  

Car Dealership Donate Scrap Car for Firefighter Training

A Shropshire car dealership has donated a scrap car to Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service to help firefighters practice rescue techniques.

The left hand drive Peugeot silver estate was delivered to Shrewsbury fire HQ by Rybrook Shrewsbury and will be used as part of regular training exercises to keep firefighters fully prepared to deal with vehicle crashes on county roads.

Group Commander Neil Griffiths thanked the Mini dealership for the vehicle which will be used to train firefighters in casualty care.

Motorists warned to take care on icy roads

The Safer Roads Partnership in Warwickshire and West Mercia is reminding motorists to continue to take extra care on the roads over the next few days as temperatures stay low and many roads remain icy and slippery. The Met Office has issued a yellow ‘be aware’ warning of ice for Tuesday (22nd January). As temperatures fall below freezing overnight, icy stretches are likely on untreated surfaces – especially in areas where any further sleet, snow or rain has fallen.

Motorists warned to take care in snow

With heavy snow forecast over the West Midlands region on Friday, the Safer Roads Partnership in Warwickshire and West Mercia is reminding motorists to take extra care on the roads over the next few days. The Met Office has issued an amber warning of snow in the region between 3am and 9pm on Friday (18th January) and the potential for severe travel disruption.

The Safer Roads Partnership in Warwickshire and West Mercia is reminding motorists to take extra care on the roads during the current cold spell, as freezing temperatures have caused icy and slippery roads in many areas across the region.

With temperatures plummeting overnight, road conditions in the mornings are becoming hazardous in some areas, with reports of black ice and slippery roads. Driving in these conditions can be particularly challenging for drivers as vehicle handling changes and stopping times and distances increase.

Cold weather warning for motorists

The Safer Roads Partnership in Warwickshire and West Mercia is warning motorists in the region to take extra care on the roads over the weekend as temperatures are set to plummet. The Met Office has forecast outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow across the West Midlands on Saturday followed by a rapid drop in temperature which will lead to a risk of icy and slippery roads.

Drink drivers in Shropshire will be targeted over Christmas period

Police in Shropshire have warned they will be targeting drink drivers in the coming weeks, knowing the Christmas period will tempt some motorists to take risks.

Senior officers are urging drivers not to put lives at risk by succumbing to temptation.

Chief Inspector David McWilliam, in charge of Response Policing for Shropshire, said: "All our operational staff have been reminded to contribute towards the Drink and Drug Driving campaign being held throughout December. They are being urged to take positive action when drink or drug driving is suspected.

With rain and sleet also predicted motorists are being advised to take extra care, particularly on wet and icy roads.
