WM Chris White said: "A 20 year old female was alerted to the fire in the ground floor kitchen by smoke detectors correctly located within the property, but was forced to make her escape through her first floor bedroom window due to smoke entering her bedroom. Although the working smoke detectors have prevented a much more serious outcome, smoke from the fire was able to travel from the fire throughout the property due to all of the internal doors being left open. Not only has the presence of smoke throughout the property prevented the occupant from making a safe escape through the front door, it has also caused significant smoke damage to every other room in the property.
