At 10:11 on Friday, 26 August, 2016, SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting an incident classified as Hazardous Substances in Ellesmere.

3 fire appliances including the Incident Support Unit were mobilised from Baschurch, Ellesmere and Oswestry. Operations and Hazmat officers were in attendance.

Attending crews used the following equipment:

Also at the scene of the incident were: the Land Ambulance Service .

Leak of ammonia from refrigeration unit - fire service crews wearing full protective clothing and breathing apparatus used positive pressure ventilation fans to disperse the leak. Seven members of staff were treated by ambulance personnel for inhalation of fumes

4 fire appliances including the Environmental Protection Unit and the Incident Support Unit were mobilised from Oswestry, Prees, Tweedale and Whitchurch. Operations and Hazmat officers were in attendance.

Also at the scene of the incident were: the Environment Agency, the Land Ambulance Service and the Police.

Investigations in progress of 4 barrels of an unknown substance. Liaison with Environment Agency to dispose of substance asap.

6 fire appliances including the Environmental Protection Unit were mobilised from Bishops Castle, Clun, Prees and Tweedale. Operations and Hazmat officers were in attendance.

Also at the scene of the incident were: the Air Ambulance and the Land Ambulance Service .

Small amount of acid leaked from container onto casualty who is being treated by ambulance personnel

At 09:29 on Thursday, 8 October, 2015, SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting a fire classified as Hazardous Substances in Telford.

6 fire appliances including the Heavy Pumping Unit were mobilised from Hodnet, Prees, Telford Central and Tweedale. Operations and Hazmat officers were in attendance.

Also at the scene of the incident were: the Land Ambulance Service , the Police and Shropshire Council.

Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service were called to a hazardous substance incident at Epson Ltd, Horntonwood. 4 fire engines attended including 2 specialist vehicles and two officers. A small amount of chemical used in ink production was accidently mixed in the waste treatment room. All staff evacuated as a precaution. Fire crews investigated and assisted in ventilation until the incident was believed to be safe. The chemicals were then pumped out by Veolia and production at the factory continued as normal. Due to Epson’s pre-planning and thorough risk assessment which was immediately passed onto fire crews the incident was resolved safely and quickly. .
