A White Paper ‘Reforming our Fire and Rescue Services’ was presented in Parliament yesterday (Wednesday 18 May) setting out the Government’s plans to reform the Fire Service under the themes of people, professionalism and governance.

Today (Monday 9 May) marks the launch of Mental Health Awareness Week and the Service will be highlighting the support available to those suffering with mental issues as well sharing advice on maintaining wellbeing.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service has been engaging with the Muslim community and teaching fire safety through a creative design competition for local young people. 

Our Prevention Team visited mosques in Wellington and Craven Arms where they launched the poster competition and asked the children to create fire safety posters to be in with a chance of winning a prize.

The children designed some amazing artwork and these were used to create cards to wish them Happy Ramadan. more

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is supporting the National Fire Chief Council’s Be Water Aware campaign which runs this week until Sunday 1 May.

The campaign is warning people of the risk of accidentally drowning when in and around water. In 2020 there were 254 deaths nationally and nearly 50 percent of people who accidentally drowned had no intention of entering the water. Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is urging the public to be water aware following an increase in the number of incidents involving rivers in the county and one tragic death.

In the last week the Service has recovered three people from the water in Shrewsbury on separate occasions. One man sadly died and another remains in hospital in a critical condition.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is currently in attendance at a significant barn fire in Bridgnorth.

The Service was called at 11.55am today (Friday 11 march) to Kingsnordley and crews from Bridgnorth, Telford, Tweedale, Craven Arms, Prees, Wellington, Shrewsbury and Albrighton have been tackling the flames with hose reel jets and main jets while also using the aerial ladder platform.
