Some of Shropshire’s newest firefighters took on a tough challenge recently in a bid to raise money for the Firefighters Charity.

 

On Saturday (Nov 26) at Telford Town Centre seven firefighters who have just completed their initial firefighter training course used a stepping machine to climb the equivalent height of New York’s former twin towers wearing full fire kit and breathing apparatus.

A Shropshire sportsman is all fired up ready to play rugby for England and hoping his team will return home with a win against Wales later this month after two previous defeats.

Ludlow firefighter George Jacks (26) has been picked for the third consecutive year to play for the England fire service’s national squad.

More women are wanted to train as on-call firefighters by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service which is holding another “taster day” just for women at Albrighton Fire Station on Saturday, November 12.

Women who live within five minutes of one of Shropshire’s 23 fire stations are invited to attend the session at Albrighton Fire Station from 9.30am to midday to see what life is like as a firefighter.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service has been nominated for an award for its trailblazing work with employees with dyslexia.

The county fire service has been shortlisted for the Best Supportive Employer in the 2016 Dyslexia Awards – the first ceremony of its kind organised by a county dyslexic trainer to raise awareness about dyslexia.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service has backed a call for sprinkler systems to be fitted in all care homes and other buildings occupied or used by vulnerable people.
