Request detail:

Under freedom of information, Could you forward over floor plans for all wholetime stations only

Response detail:

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request.

I can confirm that Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service holds the information you have requested.

However we are withholding the information since we consider that the following exemptions apply to it. Exemptions 24(1)  national security, and section 38(1)  health and safety

Disclosure of the information poses a threat to the interests of national security; the information is being withheld in order to safeguard national security. Members of the public will appreciate that as an emergency service, SFRS must ensure that certain information relating to the security of its facilities is appropriately protected. Releasing information such as floor plans may have wider implications that must be considered, i.e. disclosing certain information may prejudice the ability of SFRS to maintain its own and national security. The Service believes that maintaining security and ensuring public safety in a national and local context takes precedence over releasing certain information. SFRS accepts that this type of information is of interest to members of the public but believes that it is not in the greater public interest to release floor plans, as the public would wish to be reassured that SFRS can fulfil its obligations with regard to responding to incidents obligations which may be affected should a Fire Service facility be subject to, for example, a terrorist attack or theft of firefighting equipment.

SFRS believes that disclosing this information to the public at large would provide those with malicious intent to cause harm with key information on station floor plans and critical functions. As a result, this would impede our ability to respond to incidents and endanger the health and safety of our firefighters and members of the public. Having considered the public interest test, SFRS’s decision is, therefore, to withhold the information.

If you are unhappy with the way your request for information has been handled, you can complain or request an internal review of the decision.
