Shropshire and Wrekin Fire Authority has welcomed Home Office plans to delay a transfer of governance to the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) until at least May 2021.
The PCC has been asked to wait until after the PCC elections, the Home Office has said it wants to: “Take stock of any significant developments that may affect the business case”.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service attended a large fire at an industrial estate in Telford, Shropshire yesterday evening.
The blaze broke out at Halesfield 23 on Sunday, May 31 at 22.43 where a large number of pallets caught fire and quickly spread to adjacent properties.
At the height of the incident 12 fire engines, an aerial ladder platform, several specialist officers and the incident command unit were in attendance. In total around 80 on-call, wholetime fire fighters and support roles were in attendance.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service has joined fire fighters in South Yorkshire to help tackle a devastating moorland fire using specialist equipment
On-call firefighters from Market Drayton and Whitchurch crews along with an incident commander are working alongside Humberside, South and West Yorkshire Fire Services around the clock.
The perimeter has been divided into segments and teams are methodically working through the area which covers nearly 16kmsq – that’s an area the size of almost 200 football pitches.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is supporting the National Fire Chiefs Council’s (NFCC) National Sprinkler Week campaign.
The campaign runs from Monday18th to 24th May and raises awareness of the benefits of sprinkler systems for keeping people and buildings safer from fire as we encourage people to #ThinkSprinkler.

Also head gardener at Hodnet Hall gardens, Ross Underwood, aged 37, is on-call for emergencies with SFRS and on this occasion, put his fire-fighter training to use at his primary employer’s workplace.
He was alerted by a colleague to a man in his 80s, experiencing a blackout in the gardens and sprang into action, retrieving the trauma kit from nearby Hodnet fire station.

A Certificate of Excellence has been awarded to Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) for its ‘significant innovations’ in transforming public services.
Presented to SFRS by iESE, the public sector’s transformation partner, the award recognises the introduction of a system called ‘FireServiceRota’.
The system not only provides up to minute information about the availability of fire crews but also a flexible way for staff to manage their own availability from any mobile device.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) is taking part in the National Fire Chiefs Council’s (NFCC) "Ready Willing and Able" campaign which launches today (April 15 l) which will show how fire and rescue services in the UK are going the extra mile to protect and support their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Firefighters and support staff across Shropshire will be sharing stories on social media about how they’re using their wide range of skills to provide community reassurance and help, in response to the national crisis.
