Police investigate outbuilding arson attack in Oswestry

A brick outbuilding was damaged in an arson attack in Oswestry. Police are seeking witnesses to the fire in Swan Lane at around 12.30am on Tuesday 4th September 2012.

An old sofa inside the premises was set alight causing damage to the door and a length of guttering above.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service attended and police are investigating the incident.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "We believe the fire was deliberately started and are appealing for any information which might help identify those responsible.

Fire safety for Shrewsbury Carers

Fire safety in the home was the subject under discussion at a presentation given by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service to carers in Shrewsbury.

Delyth Humphreys from the Brigade’s Community Fire Safety department, gave a 40 minute talk to members of the Radbrook Carers’ Group.

Carers learned about the main causes of fire, where to fit smoke alarms and how to maintain them, and what to do in the event of a fire. All homes should have an escape plan and carry out a fire drill, she said.

Shropshire revving up for the Fire Fighters Charity

Shropshire is revving up and getting ready for the very first Charity Motorcycle Run on Sunday, September 2, when bikers from all over the country will leave Bridgnorth for Birmingham.

The ride starts at Bridgnorth Fire Station with registration from 10am and bikers leaving at 11am. The ride takes bikers through the beautiful South Shropshire countryside and onto the Clee Hill, and onto Bromsgrove taking the biker friendly routes around the south of Birmingham to finally arrive at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham.

Sprinkler system saves building

Shortly after 6pm last night fire crews attended a fire at the household waste recycling centre in Mile End Industrial Estate Oswestry.

The fire involved a large quantity of household rubbish inside the building andwas being supressed by a sprinkler system when fire crews arrived. The premises were severely smoke logged.

It took fire fighters working with staff from the occupiers ‘Veolia’ three hours to extinguish the fire.

Station Manager John Griffiths praised the company for installing a sprinkler system.

Police investigate suspected arson in Wellington

Police in Telford are investigating after a car fire in Wellington.

The incident occurred near Saville Close in the early hours of Friday 10 August.

At 2.15am a member of the public called the police to report that a car was on fire in a car park just off the street. Police officers and the Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service immediately attended the scene and the fire was extinguished successfully without it spreading to any other vehicles.

Arson attack on car in Telford

Police are appealing for information after a car was set alight deliberately as it was parked in a Telford street.

The incident happened at an address in Arleston Avenue, Arleston at around 12.25am today (Wednesday 8 August).

The vehicle had been parked on the road, outside the owner's property.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the fire.

Police are treating the incident as arson and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

Crews protect properties from a 'woodland fire'

Crews from across Shropshire were last night (Tuesday 31st July) called to protect properties from a simulated fire in a large area of woodland at Attingham Park, near Shrewsbury. The scenario was part of an exercise planned by Shropshire Fire and Rescue to test its response to this type of incident.

The exercise involved appliances from Shrewsbury, Wellington, Telford and Market Drayton assisted by Incident Support Units from Bridgnorth, Newport, Market Drayton and Whitchurch and a Water Carrier from Oswestry.

Curry king cooks up safety first message

Make safety your key ingredient when cooking this Summer – that is the message from an award winning Shropshire chef and Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Community fire safety officers have linked up with Shrewsbury’s Café Saffron owner Abdul Husen, who won the Shropshire’s curry chef of the year award, to help highlight the importance of safety when cooking.

Many fires are caused by both indoor and outdoor cooking, warned Rabinder Dhami, Team Leader at the county brigade’s community fire safety department.
