Brookside Safety Roadshow

Residents of a Telford estate are being urged to attend a safety roadshow run by the emergency services and The Wrekin Housing Trust on Thursday.

Fire safety, anti-social behaviour and benefits system changes will be outlined to visitors to Brookside Community Centre on May 12 from 10am to 4pm.

Free home fire safety checks in which firefighters point out potential fire hazards in the home are available to residents who wish to sign up. The Shropshire brigade's Outreach vehicle will be at the event for people to ask firefighters for fire safety advice.

A police Community Support Officer will be on hand to talk about any anti-social behaviour problems or crime issues in the area, while staff from The Wrekin Housing Trust will be answering any questions from tenants living on the estate. A welfare benefits adviser will also be at the community centre to talk about recent changes in the benefits system.

"It is a sort of safety roadshow where people can pick up essential advice on keeping themselves safe. We will be explaining about how vitally important it is for every home to have a smoke alarm fitted," said Steve Taylor, a Rural Outreach Advocate for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

More information on fire safety in the home is available from the fire safety department at Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service on 01743 260 260.
