Buckets and sponges at the ready for charity

Firefighters from across Shropshire will be taking part in the Firefighters Charity national car wash every Saturday in March 2014. The event takes place in March and September each year and raises nationally over £100,000 for injured Fire Fighters and their families.

In September 2013, Shropshire Firefighters from ten different stations raised over £2,500 for the Charity.

The Firefighters Charity is the only national charity which provides respite, recuperation and rehabilitation to sick or injured firefighters and their families.

Each year the charity requires over £8 million to secure the services at the three national centres around the country. The charity is entirely self-funding and relies on the goodwill and generosity of donations from members of the public.

The services which the charity offer are open to all serving operational firefighters, Fire Control, support staff as well as those who are retired.

The events have gone from strength to strength with eleven fire stations now participating. The local Barclays branch has kindly offered to match fund the donations collected as well as provide staff to take part.

The first event commences on Saturday March 8th, when crews from Albrighton and Oswestry will be cleaning any sized vehicle, for a donation towards the charity.

Albrighton will be cleaning vehicles at their fire station on Newport Road, while crews from Oswestry will be in Central Car Park, English Walls offering the same service.

On Saturday 15th March fire crews from Shrewsbury, Wem, Whitchurch and Baschurch will be cleaning vehicles for donations at their local fire stations.

Saturday 22nd March, fire crews from Market Drayton and Hodnet will also be cleaning vehicles for donations at their local fire station. Whilst Ludlow firefighters will be at Harry Tuffins petrol station on the A49.

Finally the month long event will conclude with fire crews from Bridgnorth will be at their station on Innage Lane, Bridgnorth, cleaning vehicles for donations.

Posters have been displayed in your local areas, however for more event information or ways to support your local firefighters, please contact Ashley Brown on Ashley.brown@shropshirefire.gov.uk
