Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service are asking everyone to take extra care in the area of Catherton Common, Clee Hill after several fires were reported in the area in the last 3 days.
At 11.42am on Friday 9th March crews from Cleobury Mortimer, Ludlow, Church Stretton, Kidderminster and Bewdley were called to 500m2 of gorse on fire at Catherton Common.
At 11.52am on Sunday 11th March crews from Cleobury Mortimer were called to 100m2 of gorse on fire at Crumps Brook near Catherton Common.
At 4.51pm on Sunday 11th March crews from Cleobury Mortimer, Church Stretton, Ludlow, Tenbury and Bewdley were called out to a large gorse and heather fire on Silvington Common near Crumps Brook.
The area around Catherton Common is extremely dry and we are asking everyone to be extra vigilant, disposing of cigarettes and matches carefully. If members of the commoners association are carrying out controlled burns that they should inform Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service on 01743 260 200.
These fires are very resource intensive and some of the more remote locations makes it difficult to access water supplies, whilst crews are dealing with these incidents from Shropshire and Hereford and Worcester they are unable to attend other incidents which maybe life threatening.
