Darren Jones, aged 35 from Wem, had always wanted to follow in his uncles footsteps and join the fire service. From a young age he heard about his uncle’s time in Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
In 2008 he joined Wem Fire Station as an on-call firefighter and has worked his way up to be a Watch Manager along his other job as a Motor Vehicle Technician.
He said: “I have attended many large incidents over the years including the major fire we had in Wem at Kingpin Tyres in 2010.
“Being an on-call firefighter in your local community, you are approached many times by the locals who always thank you for all that we do and also if we see/pass those that we have helped along the way which is always nice.
