Some electric blankets can be a fire safety risk, warn Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, which is offering FREE checks at some of the county fire stations in September. A quarter of blankets tested each year fail the test. We encourage users of electric blankets to take advantage of the offer of free testing in conjunction with RMW Electrical of Shrewsbury. To arrange a check call the Shrewsbury HQ on 01743 260200 to book your appointment during week beginning 17 September during office hours. We are at Shrewsbury station - 25 September, Whitchurch and then Oswestry Fire stations - 26 September and Bridgnorth and Ludlow Fire stations - 27 September. To avoid disappointment book as soon as possible as spaces are limited.
Anyone unable to bring their blanket in should carry out their own safety check as a precaution
Check regularly for scorch marks visual signs of damage, including all cables ans controllers
Don't fold it to store roll it up instead
Never buy or use a second hand blanket
Don't use a hot water bottle with an electric blanket always read the manufacturers instructions
