A company operating in Shropshire is falsely offering free security and fire alarm systems with an installation charge stating their smoke alarms are linked to the local fire station, revealed Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.
"This is not the case. The only fire alarm systems that perform this function are auto dialling systems which go to alarm call centres," said Fire Crime Officer Derek Taylor.
"If a fire occurs, the occupier should always call the emergency services."
If anyone is offered a free smoke alarm connected to the fire station they should contact Telford Trading Standards on 01952 381994, said Mr Taylor.
