Personnel at Oswestry Fire Station in partnership with Students from the Derwen College, Gobowen, have received a Gold Medal Award from Oswestry Borough Council for their horticultural display at the Station.
The judges from the Council inspected the Stations display of bedding plants, hanging baskets and garden in June of this year and announced in September their decision to give the Station a well deserved Gold Medal Award.
Mark Walker and other members of Oswestry Fire Station have worked hard together with the students to maintain the flower display but thanks must go to the Students of Derwen College for their hard work in growing and planting the flower beds and hanging baskets.
The College gives the opportunity for people with learning difficulties to work in the community and more importantly to work alongside others. The College and the Service are pleased to support this type of partnership and we are glad to announce that they want to work with the personnel at Oswestry again next year. They have already come up with an interesting colour scheme for next years arrangements and intend to go for the Cup as well as the award, we wish them and our members at Oswestry all the very best.
With the refurbishment of the station near completion and the floral display in the process of being grown Oswestry will be looking like Gold winners for 2007.
