Prees firefighters have raised £800 for four charities who they have worked with during fire and rescue emergencies.

More than 100 friends and family attended a bingo evening at Prees Cricket Club to raise the cash. It has just been handed over to representatives of the Shropshire Air Ambulance, the Firefighters Charity, WRVS and RNLI at a presentation ceremony held at Prees Fire Station and attended by Chief Fire Officer Alan Taylor.

The event was organised by Alan Smith, a retained firefighter at Prees for 22 years, who works as a supervisor for North Shropshire District Council.

"We sat round the table after a drill night at the fire station and worked out which charities we could help. The charities are all fire related as we work with the Air Ambulance in road crashes and injured firefighters are helped by the Firefighters Charity.

"We also worked with the women from the WRVS who helped during flooding in Gloucestershire and Yorkshire which we were called out to in 2007. The lifeboat crew were also helping to rescue people from their homes. They are all charities who need help," added Alan.
