Sainsbury’s switched on to fire safety

Firefighter Louise Jones and Sainsbury's Lisa Miller get over the fire safety messages at the Telford store

A Christmas fire safety initiative was launched in the Sainsbury’s store in Telford town centre with the help of Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Staff focussed on a week of fire safety checks and training in the vital run up to Christmas – traditionally the busiest time for stores.

Community fire safety officers from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service gave advice to shoppers on winter fire safety and the importance of checking smoke alarms regularly. Shoppers were also able to book a home fire safety visit to get advice in their own homes.

Firefighters were at the store along with the brigade’s outreach vehicle during the last week.

“We thank Sainsbury’s for giving us the opportunity to get into the heart of the community and help to protect residents from the potentially devastating effects of fire,” said Tamara Hackett from the community fire safety team.

Nina Ismet, Deputy Store Manager said: “Fire safety is paramount in our stores and it is essential that we manage a safe environment for both customers and colleagues. Fire safety week is used to enhance the profile of fire safety not only in the store but with attention given to safety and fire in the home too.”
