Shrewsbury Fire Station Open Day

Firefighters will show how they free a road collision victim trapped in their car at Shrewsbury fire station's open day on Saturday

Shrewsbury Fire Station’s open day on Saturday August 5 promises to be “the best ever” with a long line-up of eye catching activities for all the family.

Visitors to Shrewsbury Fire HQ will get the chance to watch the speed in which a chip pan is engulfed in flames, see how firefighters carry out car crash rescues and how they save trapped animals.

A series of demonstrations, drills and displays involving the wide range of fire appliances, including the aerial ladder platform, will also be on offer at the Saturday event which runs from 10am to 4pm.

Volunteers from Midlands Cave Rescue will explain how they save lives in emergency rescues.

“It promises to be one of the best ever. We have an amazing line up of activities to watch. The public will get a real feel of what firefighters and volunteers do to save and protect people,” said a spokesman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Children will be able to try out the smoke tent which shows them how to escape from a house fire. They can also get the chance to squirt water from a fire hose. Batman will mingle with visitors and there will be a playbus and crèche.
