Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service work with partners to give young carers an Easter treat

Young carers from around the County received a goodie bag full of treats, as well as a fire safety quiz delivered to their door by Shropshire Fire and Rescue’s Prevention Team.

Lucie Roberjot of Telford & Wrekin’s Young Carers Service said “we would usually give out Easter gifts via the County’s youth clubs, but with COVID-19 affecting us we had to think of another approach.

“Without the help of the Fire Service this Easter we wouldn’t have been able to reach as many people. We have really appreciated their support as a lot of our young carers are isolated at home.

“It’s nice to be able to give them something particularly during these tough times.”

Jon Temple, Group Commander of Prevention and Protection for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, said “this has been a wonderful project to be involved with as it gave us the opportunity to brighten someone’s Easter as well as help young carers in the community engage with important fire safety information.

We are always looking for new and meaningful ways to reach the people of Shropshire and partnering with the Young Carers Services around the County has been a great way to do this.”
