A daughter and mother tragically perished in a blaze that ripped through their detached family home in Fishers Lock, Newport.
Several calls were received in the early hours of Saturday morning and fire appliances from Newport, Wellington and Telford Central along with an Incident Commander were immediately sent to the scene. On arrival two children had already been rescued by neighbours.
Crews were faced with a severe fire involving both floors of the family home and had to force their way into the house to tackle the blaze.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus searched the building and rescued three people. The two women were pronounced dead at the scene whilst a gentleman was taken to Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham.
The fire crews battled arduous conditions to bring the situation under control and the fire was extinguished shortly before 1.30am.
The house has been severely damaged by the fire and a joint investigation, involving West Mercia Police, Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service and forensic scientists is under way. At this time the cause of the fire is unknown.
