A wheely good day out for charity!

Experience the drive of a lifetime at the Ladies Driving Challenge!

The Fire Services National Benevolent Fund and Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service will be holding it's 1st Shropshire Ladies Driving Challenge on Saturday 24th March 2007.

The Driving Challenge charity fundraiser is an exciting opportunity for women in Shropshire and surrounding areas to get behind the wheels of a variety of powerful and unusual vehicles, and experience a unique day of thrills, spills and enjoyment. In organising the event, the UK's largest Fire Service charity hope to raise in excess of £15K, which will help injured firefighters and their families.

The Shropshire Ladies Driving Challenge is being held the Saturday after Mothering Sunday, on the 24th March 2007 at Rednal Airfield, just a few minutes drive from Oswestry. Drivers on the day can take their pick from a variety of weird and wacky vehicles such as a fire engine, lorry, tractor and JCB to name but a few. We also have two Argo cats kindly donated by Bad Max 4x4 .Ladies will have the opportunity to drive the vehicles throughout the day, and they will receive expert tuition from the event's support team.

Women of all ages and from all walks of life are invited to take part in the challenge, with the only stipulation being that the drivers must be in possession of a full driver's licence. Driving Challenge organiser Steph Taylor comments:

"Participants in this Driving Challenge are guaranteed an exhilarating and rewarding day out, with the knowledge that their fun will help the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund support injured firefighters and their families in their hour of need".

The charity have already successfully run a series of events at a select number of UK locations, and are hoping that as many ladies as possible from Shropshire and the surround regions will take part. Over fifty participants have already signed up to drive the 'big, bad and bulky' vehicles for the day, although there are still places available should individuals or groups of ladies wish to join in the fun. To participate, drivers need to pay a £10 registration fee and either raise £90 in sponsorship, or simply pledge the equivalent amount... Why not purchase it as a gift for your mum?

There will be other activities there on the day for children so why not come down and take a look even if you're not taking part.

Ladies interested in participating can obtain a registration pack by calling or text 'DRIVE' to 07887 907 377 or emailing staylor@fsnbf.org.uk
