One of Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service’s newest recruits is sharing her experience of joining the fire service.
Harriet Davies, aged 28, previously worked as Cabin Crew for British Airways before deciding to go down a different career path and pursue a career in the fire service.
Back in August 2020 Harriet attended a taster day held at Telford Central Fire Station, she said:
“I found the taster day extremely beneficial. It was a great opportunity to find out more about the job and speak to people in the role about their experiences as a firefighter.
“I completed parts of the job-related tests which really helped to give me an idea of what to expect in the recruitment process, whilst always hoping I’d make it that far.”
Harriet was successful and made it onto a new recruit’s course where she took part in 12 weeks of training before she made it onto a station with a crew.
She added:
“I have learnt a lot about SFRS, the role of a firefighter and myself during the recruitment process and my initial training. Since being on the watch, everyone has been very welcoming and supportive, and I am enjoying being part of such a great team.
“I enjoy meeting new people, working together as a team and every day is different from the last – you never know what is going to happen next. It is very exciting and very rewarding. I also really enjoy having the opportunity to help and be part of the community.”
