Dan Weaver, 34-year-old Butcher from Church Stretton joined Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service as an on-call firefighter in 2020 so that he could be part of a team and do a job where he could help others.
Being an on-call firefighter works around his job at a butcher and his family life, as a father to a nine-year-old boy, Cameron. Dan still enjoys spare time with his son and partner Kylie, taking part in hobbies like off road biking and clay shooting, all around his commitment to the fire service.
Dan said: “Since I have joined I have received, in my opinion, the very best training and support whether it be from my crew at church Stretton, the training instructors or officers.
“I’ve only been in a couple of years but I already feel part of the family. I love my job and I sincerely hope I shall still be with Shropshire for many years to come.”
When asked if he had any advice for anyone thinking of joining, Dan added: “It’s an amazing job with huge rewards, the crews and officers are always brilliant with help and advice if and when you need it. The training is extremely interesting all be it difficult mentally and physically but it’s well worth getting it done.”
