- Buy from a reputable dealer.
Register your appliance- you will then be alerted if your appliance is subjected to a recall or has any underlying faults.
Do not tumble dry items covered in grease, fats or solvents- these items are likely to overheat and can combust.
Prevention Officer Archie Walkerdine said: “We know people live busy lives, whether you're at work all day or running around after children, and the temptation to put on a wash or a load to dry when you go to bed is high. But if you do this and something goes wrong you're not able to react quickly to evacuate and call 999.
"It is also so important you maintain your appliances to prevent them from setting fire in the first place. We created this nostalgic and fun campaign to remind the public how to wash wise and keep you and your loved ones safe."
