On the 28th June 2006 Sally Barnett, a Fire Control Operator based at Shrewsbury, fractured a vertebra in a horse riding accident. Her speedy recovery was aided by one of the three National Therapy Centers run by The Firefighters Charity.
Staff from Jubilee House, situated in Cumbria, were able to work with Sally and her injury and get her back to fitness quicker than expected. A year to the day later she was able to climb Mount Snowdon to raise money for the charity in order to show her appreciation.
Now, 7 years on, fully recovered and fully fit, Sally is undertaking another challenge to raise money for the Charity.
The Wrekin Challenge started on the 28th June 2013 at 9am, one day a week for a full year she will be walking up and down the Wrekin in Shropshire wearing full fire kit and a breathing apparatus set weighing 17.5kg.
A total of 52 walks up and down, a combined distance of 85,280 feet.
So far she has completed 39 walks leaving just 13 left to do. However, she has also set herself one final bonus walk - to climb up Snowdon on the 29th June 2014, again wearing full fire kit and carrying breathing apparatus.
To date Sally has raised somewhere in the region of £1100, with an aim to raise as much money as possible for the Charity.
Anyone is welcome to join her on any of the walks and the dates are posted on her Facebook page. You can also sponsor Sally online - http://www.justgiving.com/SallysWrekinYear2013.
