On Saturday, 16 February 2008 Newport Fire Station held a Charity Valentines Ball at the Royal Victoria Hotel in aid of the Fire Service National Benevolent Fund (FSNBF).
Guests were met with drinks in the foyer with an opportunity to have a celebratory photograph to mark the event. Following a delicious 3 course dinner, local band 'Weesel Deesel' played, getting everyone in the mood for a good time before the grand prize draw and auction. From then on 'Charlie's Disco' kept everyone dancing into the early hours of the morning.
Congratulations to Delyth Humphreys, Vulnerable Persons Officer, from Community Fire Safety who won first prize of a weekend for two at the Grosvenor Hotel and Spa in Chester.
Retained Ellesmere firefighter Phil Hall and Incident Command Officer Steve Purslow won the bidding in the auction, both going home with a canvas drawing each, kindly donated by local artist Brenda Tomlinson. Firefighter Douglas-David Robb of blue watch, Telford, won the bidding for the signed boxing gloves kindly donated by Richie Woodall.
Jill Smith, the FSNBF Regional Fundraiser attended the evening to give a short presentation and promote the charity.
The event was a great success and everyone really enjoyed themselves. The night raised over £1,500.
