Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is working in partnership with The Zip Theatre company from Wolverhampton, they have been commissioned by West Midlands Arson Task Force to perform a play designed to raise awareness in young people of the dangers of malicious fire-setting and the importance of fire safety, Sparx has been adapted for a new tour of secondary schools across the region. The tour will take place in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin between 19th and 23rd October 2009 and will visit 10 secondary schools.
It is targeted at pupils in year 8, the 45 minute performance is followed by a 30 minute workshop which includes a hot seating session with some of the main characters. Sparx focuses on a troubled teenager whose actions have a devastating impact on her friends, family and a local fire crew. The messages conveyed are reinforced with the use of contemporary music, original songs, projection and an experienced cast of five professional actors.
